2013 in Review and a Look Ahead

January 20, 2014 Rami Essaid

As I reflect on the past year of exciting developments at Distil, I wish to give thanks to the special ways in which our customers have made 2013 our best year yet.  Before I do that though, I’d like to step through the cool new things we’re working on rolling out in the upcoming year.  We are ready for a bigger and better year, and we’re excited to let everybody know.

This year we opened a new office as we expanded our team and conscripted an additional fifteen people to join the battle against bots. Each team member has been instrumental to our success, but the need to hire the additional staff came chiefly from customer demand. We grew our customer base by 947% in 2013! In itself that is a tremendous feat and wonderful from a revenue perspective, but it sums up to so much more than that. What is really fantastic about our customers is that each one is very engaged. Our customers have helped shape Distil’s service, reports, and features with terrific suggestions and feedback. To keep up with these new features we took on more people.

To highlight some of the major product accomplishments, in the past year we:

  • Released our click fraud protection and reporting solution
  • Introduced the Distil virtual and physical appliances
  • Revamped our reporting with a brand new customer portal

Looking at the bigger picture of fighting malicious bot attacks, we have seen our efforts pay off industry wide. With the formation of such groups as the IAB bot working group and the Cloud Security Alliance’s Anti Bot Group, it has become clear that many different business verticals have a critical need to identify and protect themselves from bots. In 2013 we also have won innovation awards in multiple industries including Real Estate, Travel, and Cloud Security. All the new interest has meant new competition, which is fantastic. As the global leader in bot detection and mitigation, we are committed to helping the industry as a whole mature and are excited to see so much new activity.

All the progress and scrutiny is great, but the fight is not over. The arms race continues and despite the tremendous success we’ve had, we are diligent in our efforts to stay ahead in 2014. I’d like to highlight some of exciting advancements we have in store for 2014.

  • Increased throughput capacity – Bot attacks are getting larger and larger and Distil is committed to keeping up
  • More complete coverage of the latest OWASP list of vulnerabilities
  • Deeper coverage beyond layer 7 to provide layer 4 protection
  • Better reporting
  • More in depth browser interrogations
  • And much, much more

Again, thanks to all our customers for a wonderful 2013!
