How do bad bots impair online gaming and betting websites?

Fraudsters and unscrupulous competitors capitalize on unique content using bad bots to scrape betting line data and perform electronic arbitrage. Bots perform this activity around the clock and at a speed and volume that no human can match.

User accounts on gaming websites are vulnerable to brute force attempts to login and subsequently hijack accounts. Because people typically use the same login credentials on many websites, if another site is breached it is common for those stolen credentials to be used by fraudsters on other sites. Gaming sites, with points and real money behind the login page, are prime targets for account takeover attacks.

Bad bot behavior, like web scraping and account takeover attacks, wastes infrastructure resources. This behavior increases latency reducing overall website performance. This results in increased bandwidth costs and potential denial of service for gaming operators.

Bad bots are also programmed to hide in plain sight on the website. These ‘in-play’ bots impact legitimate users and undermine the betting revenue from real humans.

With Distil Networks, gaming operators have a proactive and precise way to mitigate bad bots
and level the playing field.
