I had the privilege of representing Distil Networks at the Digiday Publishing Summit last week and conducted a live survey of attendees. I asked the audience to come clean on their ability to face up to the threat of ad fraud and the impact of bots on their websites. Here’s how well they’re coping with bots, how big of a threat digital ad fraud will be in the next 12 months and more.
Over the course of the conference, I also had a chance to sit down with over a dozen digital publishers and I quickly realized that their bot problem goes well beyond digital ad fraud.
While advertising revenue is at risk, bots mercilessly go after the valuable content living on digital publishing websites. Many of the digital publishers I spoke with were concerned about how to protect their unique content from unauthorized and illegal syndication. Besides stealing away traffic, there was a concern that stolen duplicative content was hurting their SEO.
