Arlington-based cyber firm Distil Networks has purchased Detroit-based Are You a Human as part of its efforts to expand its bot-detection capabilities.
Distill Networks will add A You a Human's real-time analysis technology and biometric information to its own suite of bot-detection products and use it to launch a free bot-discovery tool for Google Analytics. Detecting bots is important because they can inflate website traffic numbers or present a security risk by searching for sensitive information.
Terms were not disclosed. Distil will open an office in Detroit and increase its presence there, according to the company.
Distil Networks founder and CEO Rami Essaid said the acquisition also means a new team of experienced software engineers and data scientists will join the company. And by using the actual mouse movements and scrolling patterns of people surfing the web along with other data sets, the Are You a Human technology complements Distil Network's current work.
"Combine this with our purchase of ScrapeSentry in 2016, and Distil has become a brain trust of individuals with the most advanced knowledge on bots, giving us the ability to combat them more effectively than any other company in the market today,” Essaid said in a release. All 10 of Are You A Human’s employees are staying on, according to the company.
